Once in a while you read an article about IT that is so poorly written, you wonder if the author has ever worked on a computer. This article, by someone in Salesforce management, is one of those articles.
RIP, the server. It’s time to breathe the air of cloud connection
The gist of the article is that the days of servers are over, and everything is going to the cloud. The analogies he uses are silly, and the author is completely oblivious to how small businesses operate. How many industries can you think of that need local storage and local server computing power? Let’s see: manufacturing, finance, defense… in fact, I’m having trouble coming up with an industry that doesn’t need a local server. Is there even an occupation that can afford to do all of its work in the cloud? Oh, wait, I’ve got one. Sales. Isn’t that ironic?
